I’m finally wrapping up the new website where preorders will open soon — it’s been quite a journey figuring out all the moving parts, but it’s working beautifully now! I’ve tested it, kicked the tires, and it’s ready to roll.

I focussed my part of the presentation on the evolution of the tarot, why esotericism resonates with some mormons and how I've been aligning the traditional tarot to the mormon tarot.

Technically speaking the "Nauvoo Star" is a pentacle. If the 5 pointed star contains a pentagon at its center, it's a pentagram. If the pentagram is circumscribed by a circle, it's a pentacle.

The Mormon tradition has a history of mystical belief and practice. In his book Early Mormonism and the Magic World View, celebrated historian D. Michael Quinn lays out abundant evidence for the way church founders and early followers utilized folk magic, astrology, talismans, forms of divination, and, yes, even tarot cards as integrated aspects of their religion.

As a tarot reader, I see myself in each of these cards. I’m The Fool, to be sure, but I am also the structured and rigid Emperor, the open-hearted soul of Strength, a shadowy, nocturnal figure most at home in The Moon. I see similar amalgamations in everyone. Tarot has a unique power to facilitate a befriending of these seemingly disparate parts of ourselves. The simplest way to understand the cards is to recognize how they’ve operated in our own stories.
